چکیده
Macroscopic, description.?The specimen consisted of an irregular reddish-yellow firm tumour and a living round worm. The tumour measured '?0 X 6.5 X 3.0 cm. and was situated in the great omentum below the greater curvature oi Mie stomach. It was apparently covered with smooth dull-looking peritoneum and at one place was overlaid by a few dark-red blood ('lots. On serial section it was found to be c?mposed of greyish moist firm shiny tissue marked with manv small, scattered. fellow, opaque areas and it con-

Molecular phylogenetic confirmation of Gnathostoma spinigerum Owen, 1836 (Nematoda: Gnathostomatidae) in Laos and Thailand.
We report the molecular-phylogenetic identification of larvae of the nematode genus Gnathostoma Owen, 1836 collected from a snake, Ptyas koros Schlegel, in Laos and adult worms from the stomach of a dog in Thailand. DNA was extracted and amplified targeting the partial cox1 gene and the ITS-2 region of ribosomal DNA. Phylogenetic analyses indicated that all five advanced thirdstage larvae and s...

INTRA-OCULAR helminthiasis is very rare in temperate regions (Ashton, 1960) and comparatively rare in the tropics. Invasion of the human eye by Gnathostoma spinigerum is rarer still, although many cases in remote and backward areas may have gone unreported. The most recent was that reported from Burma by Ko Gyi (1960). Gnathostoma spinigerum was first recovered from a gastric tumour in the tige...

PURPOSE To describe a patient with isolated monocular optic neuritis caused by an identified Gnathostoma spinigerum infestation. CASE REPORT A 21-year-old man developed a swollen eyelid and painful monocular visual loss of his left eye which did not improve after treatment by intravenous steroid and albendazole. A remarkable eosinophilia in his peripheral blood count was demonstrated. The pat...

Human gnathostomiasis is an emerging food-borne parasitic disease caused by nematodes in the genus Gnathostoma. In spite of their significance as pathogens, these parasites remain poorly understood at the molecular level. In the present study, we sequenced the mitochondrial (mt) genome of G. spinigerum, which infects a range of definitive hosts including dogs, cats, tigers, leopards and humans....
متن کاملHistorical review and current status of gnathostomiasis in Asia.
The genus Gnathostoma contains at least twelve distinctive species. Among these, 6 species, namely G. spinigerum, G. hispidum, G. doloresi, G. vietnamicum, G. malaysiae and G. nipponicum, are found in wild animals in Asia. Related to human gnathostomiasis, G. spinigerum has long been believed as the only causative species. Until the early 1980s, all gnathostomiasis cases found in major endemic ...
